Beginning of the End?

Wow, the media has really jumped on board this concept of the Liberals making a comeback in a year or two to reclaim their Devine right to govern. I thought Craig Oliver was about to start crying on CTV last night. I've heard so many times last night and today that without the taint of Adscam, the next Liberal leader will ride to a majority within days of being selected at the Liberal leadership convention. These 'experts' claim that the un-Canadian Conservatives will be back in the opposition where they belong.

Well I'm the only "Expert" that counts around here and it's my opinion that this isn't the beginning of the end for the Conservatives. The party was only merged two years ago. The party has only had one policy convention, and that was less than one year ago. We now have watchdogs on bias in the media. We now have watchdogs on extremists and activists that will mislead the public to advance their own agendas. We will soon have a government that will be more transparent, more democratic, and more accountable. We currently have a huge grassroots movement to bring about change in this country and it has just started to mature. We have just taken our first real steps towards a more politically balanced nation.

No, this is not the beginning of the end. This is just the end of the beginning.

Your optimism that this won't be another lame government is almost encouraging.

I have faith in Harper, and sooner or later even Toronto might come around on him.

I tend to agree with you.
People have under-estimated Stephen Harper and I think they're still doing it.

I noticed it too unfortunately, and thought the same thing when I saw Craig Oliver last night. I heard the same sentiments all day on my local rock station.

When you consider that Harper only got a slim minority given the outstanding campaign the CPC ran and the poor campaign the liberals ran, despite the scandals, despite the investigations during the election. It's no wonder the media is so cocky. We are in for some media bias like we have never seen before.

Or at least, never seen since Malroney.

As a Tory who underestimated Harper, I am so thrilled about our win. I do believe he will defy these Liberal MSM apologists & win a stronger mandate next time out

ITs a marathon not a race. We'll win some and lose some, but we will never be the perenial losers again. We are slowly moving Canada to the centre, once thats done, who knows, maybe we can drag it over the line to the right? :-)

I'm really not being a pedant because I choose to believe that your use of "Devine" in place of "Divine" is a puntastic nod to Saskatchewan's scandal plagued former government.

The MSM assumes that adscam was the end of scandles, Not So.
When the books are opened on Crown corperations and The Liberal created arm length foundations the iceburg of Liberal crimes will start to rise from the depths.
The Liberal party will not rule in Canada for decades, That's My prediction.
Like my nephew says, right now the only leader that could put the Libs back in power is Stephen Harper and he ain't likely to F--- up that baddly.

At least us "unCanadaians" made Paulie the unPM, that alone made the whole election worthwhile !

Harper should bring in PR. The Liberal would never win a majority again.

I hope Dante' you understand that PR stands for Proportional Representation. Allan.
Tonight, CTV News went back to PMSH
old High School to find out about, well... I don't know. They are dragging the mud out about him. No doubt they want to keep the Conservatives out of the GTA. How stupid. Allan.

If the Liberals have a knock down & dirty leadership race, Harper should call an election as soon as the new leader is elected, before the dust settles, and go for a majority!
It has worked in the past!

I know my spelling and grammar sucks, if it gets passed the spell checker, then its outta my hands.

I think that Harper should lobby hard to get Paul to stay on. Martin is our best shot at a majority. ;-)

All in all, the leadership contenders for the Liberals are pretty underwhelming.

Despite the best efforts of the main-stream Liberal media a real Conservative party actually won the election. Then, in recent days the Toronto (Red) Star published a letter-to-the-editor calling for the city to scrap their TTC streetcars, another in favour of a bridge to the TCC airport, and another one in favour of garbage incineration. Maybe, just maybe, that 30-some year virus known as Trudeau Socialism Canada has been infected with is finally running it's course. Wouldn't that be great! BTW, I think Mr. Harper will prove to be one of the great Prime Ministers in the modern history of our country.
