The Canada Kyoto Petition

To: Canadian Poltical Parties

A bill that would oblige the Canadian government to respect its obligations under the Kyoto Protocol passed second reading as the Liberals, NDP, and Bloc Quebecois outvoted the Conservative government.

The Kyoto Protocol Implementation Act demands that within 60 days of the bill passing that the Minister shall prepare a Climate Change Plan that includes a) a description of the measures to be taken to ensure that Canada meets its obligations under Article 3, paragraph 1, of the Kyoto Protocol including measures respecting, i) regulated emission limits and performance standards, (ii) market-based mechanisms such as emissions trading or offsets iii) spending or fiscal measures or incentives, and(iv) cooperative measures or agreements with provinces, territories or other government

We demand that all political parties including the Liberals, NDP, and Bloc Quebecois should also bring forward their plans for meeting Canada's Kyoto targets.

This is so hypocritical of the opposition parties. The NDP's plan has no costing. A 9 year old with a computer and an internet connection could have put it together. The Liberals had 4 plans - all failed. The Bloc plan is simply to demand that the government meet it's targets. The Green Party's plan is simplistic which is surprising coming from Elizabeth May. She seems to like to bash oil companies even though other industries get subsidies. Let's see if she has the guts to go to Ontario and tell everyone that the auto industry shouldn't get subsidies either. A Carbon tax will not change Canadians driving habits. People still have to drive to work and pick up their kids from daycare.

The NDP's Green Agenda (http://www.ndp.ca/greenagenda) includes a detailed backgrounder and a costing for each of it's five points. This is freely available on their website.

The NDP Plan would not reduce emissions by anywhere close to the 30% required because they too don't want to tell Canadians what it would REALLY cost. I challenged Layton on this and his reaction was to bash the Conservatives and ignore the detailed critique of his plan.

the real question is why bother; there is not one iota of credible evidence that reducing our emissions will have any affect on the planets climate, the 97% of emissions that come from natural sources will continue unabatted as they have for a few billion years

I truly hope the CPC will run on this in the next election and ask the public to vote Kyoto down?

Water vapour is the main contributer to the green house effect. We should seriously think about draining all of the lakes in Canada and storing the water in air tight containers!!! I want the NDP to take up this challenge!

NDP NDP NDP!
We should give them a chance,
not out of pity,
but because they seem to be assisting the environment and the needs of citizens more than
the Conservatives.
