Michaelle Jean, Harper's New Best Friend?
After announcing yesterday that she will not attend the Press Gallery dinner, joining a growing list of mostly Conservative MP's and the Prime Minister declining the annual event, Governor General Michaelle Jean went one step further today and possibly gave hints as to why she would not attend. Michaelle Jean blasted the media for being too sensational and gossipy and not reporting on real news.
Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean cautioned Thursday against sensationalism and gossip replacing critical news reporting, urging an audience of journalists to remember their civic responsibility.Is the GG on the Prime Minister's side during this war with the Parlimentary Press Gallery? Well I don't think I would go that far and I'm sure even if she was she would not openly admit it. That being said, despite her sugar coating there is no doubt she is telling the media in Canada to stop the childish junior high mentality and to start doing their jobs. I can agree with her on that.
Without narrowing in on specifics, Jean painted a bleak picture of the dangers of transforming journalism into a commodity, where sales figures and deadline pressures erode the quality of reporting.

I think she was upset about the "drunken" comments the media made about her. After that kind of press, why would she subject herself to more bad comments??
The media is suffering from some big blows, because, face it, they blow!

Regardless, while I'm surprised, I'm glad she kicked them in their collective butts, they deserve it.
Duffy today, with his dicing & splicing of Harper's press conference today, was embarassing to watch. 20+ minutes of questions, and all ctv could do was cut & paste the "Harper vs media" questions? Puhleeze
Wow, that's quite amazing considering the the GG herself was a CBC media type in another life.
I take back everything I ever said that was negative about her!
I do recall last year she called herself "hot" at the dinner.
This doesn't surprise me, when MJ went to Haiti, the press only reported the superficial parts of her trip. she spent most of her time trying to highlight the progress of Haitians and her old community for a Canadian audience.
