At Least The Parents Showed Up
LAVAL, Que. (CP) -- Two day-care workers in Laval, north of Montreal, were fired after they forgot a sleeping toddler inside their day-care and went home for the night.
The mother of the 21-month-old baby arrived around 6 p.m. Tuesday night to find the day care's doors locked and the lights off.
She called 911 and firefighters smashed a window to get her child.
The daycare's executive director, Myriam Taillefer, says the two workers failed to follow proper procedures when closing up for the day.
The day-care centre's board of directors decided to fire them and parents seem to be satisfied with the decision.

More examples how daycare is bd for children. Parents are beetter!
To think this is the same system that the Federal Liberals based their national day-care strategy on. A system that has unionized workers on a rotating strike in Montreal, and workers who either leave a child outside in the cold because it was sleeping and they didn't want to disturb it, or forget to even check to see if all the children have been picked up for the day. Finally, how does a day-care centre serve all parents when it is closing down at 6:00 PM? Please someone explain to me how this is the best system for our children. Anyone?
This "National" (for which it is anything but) Child Care Plan does NOTHING for people who happen to be shift workers. It does NOTHING for people who would live too far away from a Gov't daycare.
Harper's plan, while not a lot of money right now, is at least a start into building towards something in giving me and my family choice because we choose not to use a daycare centre. It help us in our choice of raising our children at home with one parent; where they are better off during their formative years. The Liberal's plan does not even come close.
my mouth just dropped!! omg
I can't get over this no matter who you are how do you leave a child like that.. parents or workers..
do you know that the parents are legally liable for their children no matter where they are.. if CAS decided to look into this matter, they can easily charge the parents.. daycares are only accountable under a civil law,, not criminal..
Every daycare my daughter was in, other than a homecare, had a signout sheet, i.e. you signed when you picked up your child, complete with the time (so you could get dinged $1/minute for being late, if you were). How on earth did this happen? And what are they doing having a child nap at that hour anyway?
Anonymous, show me a regimented, regulated daycare that closes after 6 & I'll be amazed. 6 is actually rather generous, most I've dealt with shut down at 5:30.
This is exactly why daycare workers want to work for the government and not parents.
The union will get their jobs back for them pronto, somehow or other it's not their fault, it never is.
The writer is totally fair, and there is no question.
