Malodorous Liberal NCC Appointment
Richard Mahoney is a good friend of Paul Martin. He was executive assistant for Mr. Martin when the PM was a MP, he worked on both the 1990 and 2003 leadership campaigns and he was part of a close circle of informal advisers to Mr. Martin as finance minister. Richard Mahoney and Paul Martin are tight.
Alex Munter is the former anonymous Leaker of the 1997 Harper speech, caught by the Canadian Press when they learned that Munter was in Vancouver with the Liberal team, working with Martin on debate preparations. He received the speech from a top Liberal, speculated to be Brian Guest, another one of Prime Minister Paul Martin's closest advisers!
Richard Mahoney recently said that the current mayor of Ottawa, Bob Chiarelli, and former city councillor Alex Munter would be good candidates for the top National Capital Commission job, though Mr. Mahoney noted that Mr. Chiarelli isn't currently available because he's running for mayor again. The commission chairman's job is a prestige federal appointment, paying between $167,700 and $197,300 a year.

I thought Alex Munter was an NDPer?!
Strictly speaking, Munter has not official political affiliations; however, he has worked on Paul Martin's campaign.
Since Richard is currently a political candidate and not a sitting MP, I wouldn't read too much into this comment. He probably said that because he knows the guy's work and can't think of any major screwups that would disqualify him.

Alex Munter is a leftist gay rights activist (a leading light in EGALE), a former ruthless mud slinging Kanata city councilor who is now aspiring to be the mayor of Ottawa. It just so happened recently that Chiarelli, who Alex is in record respecting so much, will run for re-election as City Mayor. Alex Munter is on the coat tails of Paul Martin's entourage to which Mahoney belongs. So to appease Alex, he is now a leading candidate for the NCC chairmanship, to earn the big bucks and gestate until Chiarelli decides he is already bored by being mayor..
Now, I must admit that I sometimes just skim over the coments and don't read them fully, but annonamous, I don't see the problem with Munter, even if he is a gay mud wrestler...
