Don't Worry - Be Happy!!!!

A recent study (full story) revealed that taking a certain class of anti depressants (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs) double the risk of suicide attempts among patients.

So lets get this straight...you take them so you don't feel depressed. But they make you want to kill yourself. I guess thats OK because at least you'll feel good about your suicide!

In another part of the study, according to IMS Health (a health information company) there were 15.7 million prescriptions for SSRIs dispensed in Canada in 2003.
If you think that sounds like alot...IT IS! There are only 30 million people in Canada!

That may explain why Canadians don't seem to mind bad government...or maybe explains how the ones that do handle it!

I am Canadian! As well, I have been supporting the "companies for a more suicide friendly product" by ingesting 450mg of Effexor daily. That, btw, is the maximum doseage. The really cool thing about the drug(s) is that the person who gets fucked is usually not around after the bad side effect to launch any law suit. If it only increased my chances of stroke or heart attack, I would be able to seek justice. So everyday I take my meds i know that there's a good chance I will end up in my garage with a bottle of tequila and a full tank of gas with nowhere to go. God bless the pharmaceutical industry.

Gary, I think a guy with a good sense of humor like you have will be one of the survivors!

We don't have an effective post drug evaluation system in Canada or the United States.

Some of these drugs really can cause serious side effects. Hard to call killing yourself a side effect though.

Perhaps we start looking at other treatments that involve fewer drugs. Too bad for the Big Pharma folks if we ever find "non" drug treatments!

Rick, you hit the nail right on the head. Whatever happened to coping skills? Maybe its not so bad for little Johnny to lose or fail once in a while...

My words of advice:

Stop taking the drugs. If you're in a hospital where they make you take it, check yourself out.

If you can't because maybe the law made you be there you're out of luck.

Accept responsibility. Don't like your life? Hey, it's YOUR doing. YOU are responsible for exactly where you are in life, it WAS your doing.

Accept reality. Life is equally "unfair" to EVERYBODY. You are not special or different in the slightest in that regard.

Good point Jay. I agree they are horrendously overperscribed, although there are times when they are necessary.
Heroin on the other hand...
